New Gear of war 3 DLC is now up!

The games creators EPIC have released the latest DLC for Gears of War 3 - the 'forces of nature' map pack

The downloadable pack adds five new multiplayer maps, each featuring unique weather conditions: Aftermath (Flooding City), Artillery (Tornado), Cover (Fog), Jacinto (Rainstorm and Imulsion), and Raven Down (Snowstorm) and includes 250 Achievement Points and four new multiplayer characters; the Savage Hunter, and new variants of Commando Dom, Mechanic Baird, and the Savage Grenadier Elite.

The content costs 800 MS Points, unless you've got the Gears of War 3 Season Pass, in which case you've already paid for it.

GTA V details leaked?

Someone claiming to be a friend of a disgruntled ex-Rockstar employee has dumped a bunch of supposed Grand Theft Auto 5 details online.

The info originally appeared on GameSpot's forums and has since been deleted.

The poster says his buddy "recently got sacked from RockStar North for general misconduct" and since his contract is no more he's free to spill the beans. Given the dubious nature of the source, we'd take all this with a pinch of salt.

According to his info GTA 5 will star Albert de Silva, the man shown in the original trailer, who is half Hispanic and a former member of a Vice City crime gang. Silva has decided to leave the gang life behind and settle in Los Santos with his first-person shooter-loving, good for nothing son Kevin.
GTA 5's map will weigh in at around five times as large as GTA IV's Liberty City, it's claimed, with Los Santos taking up just under half of this area. As always the map will be split into three sections and can be explored using aircraft.

The game will feature 32 person multiplayer and, as in Red Dead Redemption, players will be able to create gangs and build a rep. Gang activities range from ripping off launderettes to sneaking into military bases and pinching state-of-the-art weapons. Gang leaders can rank members and set specific objectives. There's also assigned territory, but only in Los Santos.

The whistleblower also claims GTA V will be out in May 2013.

Here's some of the other 'info' posted:
  • Police chases are now way more than either running or driving. Depending on how wanted you are, police may bring out riot shields and flash bangs. 5. When someone reaches 4 star wanted level, there will be a radio warning on some stations.

  • Radio stations now do traffic reports that are actually correct. So if you don't know what route to take, you can check the traffic reports on your phone or the radio.

  • The in-game TV now has many more channels

  • The protagonist DOES NOT die unlike in the last two Rockstar games.

  • The underworld actually has a working economy that you can contribute too by buying and selling drugs, weapons and illegal cars in single player.

  • The protagonist can take drugs which will have some effects. But smoking weed on the street will lead to getting a one star wanted level.

  • Police cars will go after you if you're obviously breaking the speed limit. Having high speed crashes will also damage your health.

Wanted levels:
-1 star - police follow you on foot and try to make an arrest. No sirens, no car chases (unless you are speeding).
-2 star - police will still attempt to make an arrest. If a weapon is drawn then the police will begin opening fire. Police will use stun guns if a weapon is not drawn.
-3 star - Chases begin and the police don't care how they stop you, they just want to do it.
-4 star - road traps, radio stations and much more hostile police. Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 24 in-game hours for someone matching your description.
-5 star - shoot to kill, arrest only if it's made very possible. Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 48 in-game hours for someone matching your description. Few missions become unavailable if you are wanted.
-6 star - military vehicles come after you. Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 72 in-game hours for someone matching your description. Some missions become unavailable if you are wanted.
US retailer GameStop has said it isn't expected a GTA 5 release until next year.

Games are getting more expensive!

The average price of video games last year was £25.63, MCV reports and that represents a 5.4 percent increase year-on-year.

The average cost of games was £24.32 in 2010 and just £22.69 a year earlier. Specialists, generalists and independents increased prices the most last year, followed by supermarkets and online.

According to MCV, the main reasons for the rise in average prices were fourth quarter blockbusters like Call of Duty and FIFA not being subject to heavy discounting like they were in previous years, and increasingly slow sales of budget titles, mainly for Wii and DS.

GAME stores finally bite the dust

GAME will die this week without £180m rescue

Unless GAME can get £180 million before the end of this week, it looks like the mighty gaming retailer giant will fall, with bills of £21 million rent payment due on Sunday, more than £10 million owed in deferred VAT, £40 million owed to video game suppliers and a £12 million wage bill shortly requiring payment. On top of that there is the debt to the banks GAME is indebted to, Royal Bank of Scotland is reportedly owed $45m, and Barclays, HSBC and La Caixa are all thought to be owed around £30m each.

Apparently the retail chain rejected a 'rescue bid' from Opcapita. The GAME Group was "teetering on the brink of collapse on Friday" after the retailer's lenders - who are owed more than £100 million - rejected a rescue deal proposed by private equity firm OpCapita.

It has also set in motion the process of closing a number of its UK stores. It has sent letters to customers living in affected areas to inform them of its plans, which are part of a previously announced strategy to reduce its UK store portfolio from 610 to 575 outlets. According to Eurogamer, the troubled firm is reassuring customers that existing pre-orders will be transferred to alternative GAME or Gamestation stores.

GAME is informing individual customers of its plans rather than announcing a list of stores facing closure, but reports indicate outlets in Bracknell, Berkshire, Hull and Wrexham are among those set to close.

More trouble for GAME stores?

Activision to be the latest games company to pull out of selling their titles in GAME's stores.

First it was EA, Nintendo, Sega, Tecmo Koei and Capcom who wouldnt allow GAME to sell any of their games this month including Mass effect 3, Street Fighter X Tekken and Mario Party 9, and they also won't be stocking upcoming games including FIFA Street, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Ninja Gaiden 3.

According to leading GAME-gate source MCV, Activision titles Cabela Big Game Hunter 2012 and Zhu Zhu Babies, plus Microsoft's Kinect Rush: A Disney/Pixar Adventure, will not be sold by the retailer and neither will Kid Icarus!

The Sunday Times has mentioned that game might be selling it franchise in order to avoid collapse, with Walmart and Comet owner Opcapita said to have put in offers. MCV reported yesterday that staff within GAME's Basingstoke headquarters believe the firm will fall into administration on March 24 unless a buyer is found.

This is what the retailer had to say on Monday about the situation:

"The Board of GAME is working actively to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. This includes ongoing discussions with suppliers, seeking access to the original facility or alternative sources of funding, and reviewing the position of all of its assets in the UK and international territories.

"It is uncertain whether any of the solutions currently being explored by the Board will be successful or will result in any value being attributed to the shares of the Company."

..Looks like GAME is in trouble :/

Xbox 360 achievement epidemic

Hundreds of xbox 360 gamers are reporting that they have had their achievements reset to zero.

Microsoft support has said those experiencing Gamerscore issues should sign out and then back into your profile to resolve the issue.

Microsoft's Xbox Support has been inundated with users complaining about years worth of Achievements vanishing in an instant, and it's assured players it is "looking into the issue".

While the problem is likely to be a temporary glitch, given how large the Achievement hunting community is there's sure to be a few livid gamers out there. If it turns out to be permanent we'd advise stocking up on supplies quickly and getting to your bunker. It's not going to be pretty.

Yesterday the platform holder revealed plans to raise the standard gamerscore cap on Xbox Live Arcade titles from the current 200 to 400 effective from April 1.

Bethesda drops Scrolls Lawsuit

Bethesda lets Mojang keep Scrolls as their newest game title.

Back in August Mojang recieved a warning letter from bethesda studios claiming that using the name scrolls in their newest game would infringe on the Elder scrolls trademark and that that consumers would confuse the PC game with their game Skyrim, and threatened legal action if it wasn't changed.

Mojang co-founder Marcus Peasron said he would fight any claims in court if nescessary and offered to alter the name a little to appease Bethesda.

But now the issue has being settled and Mojang's newest game will in fact be called Scrolls but will not have a trade mark. They recently posted the information on their blog.

This is what they had to say:

Dear members of the internet,

We have settled the lawsuit over Scrolls and Mojang and Bethesda are friends again.

To answer the big question – yes Scrolls is still going to be called Scrolls.

To answer the second question – we aren’t going to keep the trade mark.

For us this was never about a trade mark but being able to use Scrolls as the name of our game which we can – Yey.

No disc drive for New Xbox?

According to the website MCV the next gen console from Microsoft will NOT have a disc drive!

It will instead opt for the use of compatibility with some sort of interchangeable solid-state card storage, although it is not known whether this will be proprietary or a more standard format such as SD.

But what does this mean for big gaming retailers such as GAME and GameStation? Will this sudden change in the market stop these shops all together? Well there is a market for downloadable content online as well as in stores and GAME is currently enjoying growing revenue from digital download cards.

Microsoft have issued a statement on the subject:

“Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend its lifecycle like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

So do you think this is a good idea? Should we be downloading our games instead of buying a hard copy? Leave answers below! :]

PSVita games leaked early

Online retailer Play.com has seemingly outed four major upcoming Vita games.

As spotted by users on gtaforums.com, Play posted Vita product listings for Monster Hunter Portable 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nights, Tales Of Innocence R and Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, although it has started removing them.

Presumably these are the games Sony's planning to announce this Friday as part of its PlayStation Vita Game Heaven webcast. Good news for Vita fans if so.

Halo 4 screenshot's revealed?

343, the creators and developers of the massively popular Halo franchise, haven't given any details about Halo 4 since the E3 reveal last year, but it seems some screens of the new master chief have been leaked.

The first in-game Halo 4 screenshots have appeared online via Gamerlive.tv but they reveal no gameplay content. The game's described as "the dawn of a new trilogy" and its developers have claimed they're taking it "back to what made Halo 3 amazing".

Microsoft's been leaking all over the place this weekend, with Forza Horizon, Fable Heroes and Fable: The Journey media all appearing online. You could say this could be some kind of marketing..?

Valve's new games console?

According to a recent article published by The Verge a new gaming system that plays steams pc games could be in the pipeline.

According to sources, the company has been working on a hardware spec and associated software which would make up the backbone of a "Steam Box." The actual devices may be made by a variety of partners, and the software would be readily available to any company that wants to get in the game.

Valve have recently filed for a patent on a controller design with interchangeable peripherals, meaning that it can be reconfigured depending on the type of game you're playing. Adding fuel to that fire is a rumor that the Alienware X51 may have been designed with an early spec of the system in mind, and will be retroactively upgradable to the software.

Valvepatent

Steam also announced at last years GDC that they were looking to bring in The big picture and according to the company's press release in 2011 "With big picture mode, gaming opportunities for Steam partners and customers become possible via PCs and Macs on any TV or computer display in the house."

The steam box could be announced by valve at GDC, but they could leave it until this years E3.

Cameo in New Spidey Game!

Stan Lee, the creative genius behind everybody's favorite super hero Spider-man, will be featured as an unlock-able character in the newest Marvel action game 'The Amazing Spider-Man'.

We're expecting his appearance to be in the form of an unlockable skin, because hobbling around as an aged man wouldn't be very thrilling gaming.

The Spidey co-creator confirmed the news to Addict of Fiction (thanks Joystiq) during the London Super Comic Convention recently. No more information was given, but we can't wait to see Lee doing ninja flips through Manhattan.

The game, which will arrive ahead of the movie's July 3 release, is headed to PS3, 360, 3DS, DS and Wii on June 26, Activision confirmed recently alongside the trailer below.
Lets just hope its not another naff movie tie in game..!

Trouble For Game

If your from the UK this is probably the biggest deal for you than anyone else worldwide.

Game will not be stocking the new EA games for the march release and with game titles such as mass effect 3 and SSX coming out within the next month this shall be a problem. Not only this, its rumoured that Game (and GameStation which is owned by game) is starting to lose money and people believe that the game trade will be taken over by shopping centres such as Tesco's.This could be a major problem for many gamers in the UK as Tesco isn't a place you go for game advice and random browsing. It may be cheaper but I know I much prefer the real game shops.

So if you don't want to miss out on the next installment of the latest mass effect 3 head over somewhere else and pre order now.
